BYSC G96, third in CSL’s Silver bracket, surpassed all expectations by breezing through group play, then dismantling Valley United’s Premier team in the round of 32. Once again, they would play the role of the underdog as they beat two teams in the sweet 16 and elite 8 respectively who were both tops in their respective Silver Elite brackets. It forced a showdown with Premier power Simi Valley Eclipse. Unfortunately, once again the tolls of a long season caught up with the team as many players were out with injuries and facing a determined Eclipse team. This time the 96s lost after a hard fought match, however placed third, as Eclipse went on to win the League Cup final.

The G98 U-13 took 4th place in gold and played in the semi finals at League Cup.

Blues 98, coached by Auggie Rodriguez, finished 2011 with great success. The boys battled hard to finish second in league in the Gold division. The last two tournaments showed to be tough competitions, losing in Nomads to UFC Gold in the quarter finals and getting to the semifinals in league cup, losing in penalty kicks to the team that eventually would be the winner of the competition.

"It is not easy trying to keep the right balance between developing players and winning. The soccer in Southern California is very competitive, most of the teams have a lot of talent and the coaching all around is very good," commented head coach Auggie Rodriguez.

Corona Santiago goalkeeper Katie Smith dished out the denial by the bucketful on a wet pitch in Thursday’s Big VIII League opener, finishing her first start against rival Riverside King with nine saves — none bigger than the stop that came at close range in the closing seconds to preserve the Sharks’ 1-0 victory.

“Oh my gosh, she’s amazing,” said Santiago midfielder Tiara DeObaldia of the junior varsity call-up in goal. “Seriously, she works so hard, it’s ridiculous.”

The Blues Youth Soccer Club in Corona held its Post-Season Celebration/Picture Day on December 10 at Eagle Glen Park. Toys were brought for the Spark of Love Toy Drive, food for the Food Pantry, and soccer equipment was given to the "Suit Up" program.

Congrats to BYSC 97, BU 14 CSL League Cup Champions!

The BU11 Blue team traveled down to San Diego over the Thanksgiving weekend to participate in the Nomad’s Thanksgiving tournament. The boys were coached by Auggie Rodriguez and finished first in their Flight with wins over Aztecs FC Elite 4-0, Roadrunner United 4-2 and a tie with Celtic Harps 3-3. The Celtics Harps always provide a tough, physical battle when the two teams meet.

The boys had a semi-final matchup with FC Man United which has always been an tough opponent. The teams had faced each other twice during the Fall League season. Both times, FC Man United had come out on top. This weekend, the Blues were not to be denied. They came out and played agressive, possession style team ball and won the semi-final match 3-0. It was their time! They were moving onto the Championship Game!

The Championship game was played against Nomads Fresno - North. Nomads had only allowed 1 goal in the tournament going into the Championship game. The game was hard fought and both teams were playing well, which is the way a Championship game should be played. The Blues finally broke through in the 2nd half with a goal to take a 1-0 lead. The rest of the 2nd half was extremely hard fought by both teams and in stoppage time, a PK was called against the Blues. Score tied 1-1 at end of regulation.

Nomads broke through first and scored in the 1st OT. The Blues were not to be denied, they never gave up! With about 4 minutes left in the 2nd OT, the Blues scored on a corner. The boys kept up the pressure and dug deep and with less than a minute left in 2nd OT, the game winner was scored on a direct kick right outside the 18. The boys played with so much heart and desire. They deserved to be champions. Everyone had a part in this championship run. Great job boys and we are all so proud of you! Thank you parents for all the support of the boys over the weekend......Go Blues!
